| Backup Plan: | If school is cancelled, Ski Club will also be cancelled. If possible, we will make up a cancellation by meeting on March 3rd. In the event that we do not have snow, ski club will still meet in an alternative location, likely the Amery Middle School practice field and the School Forest. |
Welcome to Balsam Branch SkiSparks!
We are excited to be a part of the Minnesota Youth Ski League to help kids in the Amery area learn to love the lifelong sport of Nordic skiing. The Balsam Branch SkiSparks program is for all children aged 4 through 14 that want to learn classic skiing. We meet on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30 starting January 6, 2027 at Balsam Branch Ski Trails. Kids love skiing on the lighted trails once the sun goes down!
This is a volunteer-run club, and volunteers are what make this program successful! Parents are encouraged to volunteer, and you do not have to be an "expert" skier. Learn more about how you can help on our Volunteer Page. Whether coaching or pouring hot cocoa, our volunteers leave each session with smiles on their faces and full hearts. New to Skiing or MyXC?
Steps to participate in Balsam Branch SkiSparks:
- Select a Skill Level for your skier (our club goes to Level 4, classic only). If you aren’t sure your child’s level, sign up for what you think is best and coaches will assess their ability at our first session.
- Review your Equipment Options. If you own equipment, great! If not, we have a limited number of Classic Rentals available for kids (so register early!). To learn more about how to determine your child’s European boot size, review the chart at the bottom of this page. You should also know your child’s exact height and weight. This helps us determine the appropriate sized skis and poles. You can also find gear for sale at the MyXC Nordic Ski Swap on November 21st. Out There Nordic in Rice Lake provides a kid's trade up program after your initial purchase (pay the difference in price to get the next size ski, boot, or pole).
- Apply to Volunteer (volunteers get priority registration)
- Register your skier(s) (also called club membership)
- Dress for winter fun!
- Attend club meetings and smile!
