Welcome to the Brainerd Lakes Area Youth Ski Club Season!

Thank you for being a part of the Brainerd Nordic Ski Club's 9th season of introducing children ages 4 to 14 to the joys of Nordic skiing, and providing a fun winter activity for the entire family.

Please use online registration to sign up. If you have problems with online registration, please contact info@myxc.org If renting equipment, registration will ask for child's shoe size, height and weight so the appropriate size skis and boots can be paired with the child.  The only way to rent equipment is to sign up through this registration process.

Once you register if you have paid for equipment you will receive an e-mail about when to pick up the equipment.

Schedule and Meeting Place
We will meet for nine Sunday afternoons, 2:00 – 3:30.

All members should meet in the parking lot of the Northland Arboretum, 14250 Conservation Drive, Baxter adjacent to the Paul Bunyan Trailhead. The Arboretum building will be open and available to skiers each Sunday for warming up and restrooms.

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to allow time to get equipment on anso we can start promptly at 2:00.

Equipment
Equipment is available on a first come, first serve basis with a rental fee of $40 for the season for a classic package and $75 for a skating package.  Children will be able to take the equipment home for the entire winter season to use.

Weather

We will meet regardless of snow conditions. Please bring your gear even if there is no snow, as we will use the poles for pole hiking and new skiers can practice getting skis on/off and getting up. If the temperature drops below minus 10F, class may be cancelled. We will e-mail a cancellation notice at least one hour before class.

Clothing
Dress your child appropriately for the day’s weather. Dress in layers: long underwear, an insulating layer, and a non-absorbent outer layer to block the wind and keep out snow. Warm hats, mittens, and socks are mandatory!

Curriculum
The MYSL provides a structured 8-week curriculum at six different ski levels. Depending on enrollment, we may not offer classes at all six levels this season. Children will be grouped into appropriate classes at the first meeting.

Volunteers
MYSL is a volunteer organization, and we need your help! We need volunteers to bring snacks each week, help with lessons, and staff and clean the Arboretum building. Members of the Brainerd Nordic Ski Club will be volunteering as coaches, but parents who ski are also urged to consider coaching. You don’t need to be an elite skier, you just have to like helping kids and having fun!

We look forward to seeing you on the trails, and hope for another great year of snow!
