Welcome to MYSL at Bunker Hills SkiSparks Club
We are excited for an another wonderful year of skiing starting January 2023!!
Our meeting location is at the Bunker Hills Golf Course.
Equipment
If you rented equipment from MYSL this year we will be sending out information in the first part of December about a pick up time.
Please contact Jeremiah at bunkerhills@myxc.org with any questions.
Weather and Cancelation Policy
We will not ski if the air temperature is below 0˚ F, the wind chill is below -10˚ F, or at the leader's discretion. Cancellations will be sent out by email to the address provided at registration.
Clothing
Dress your child appropriately for the day's weather. Start with good ski socks. Younger children that fall more easily could wear snow suits if there is new snow. Older children should wear layers: polypropylene or moisture wicking under layer, insulating fleece or wool layer, and a non-absorbent wind proof outer layer to cut the wind and keep out the snow. Warm hats and mittens are mandatory. Please use your discretion noting your child's activity level and the outside temperature/wind chill. Often a winter jacket and snow pants or a snow suit are too warm once the child gets skiing.
Water
Kids in levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 should have the option of carrying a water bottle. Parents should carry bottles for the younger kids in levels 1 and 2. These kids go pretty hard and get dehydrated quickly. As they will drink sweet tasting liquid more easily in the cold, consider Gatorade or Powerade.
Volunteering
This is a volunteer run club and we need all the help we can get to be on snow in January! The success and affordability of this program comes directly from your contributions of time, energy, and talent. By registering for this club, you are committing to the club's success and are agreeing to volunteer.
Level 1 skiers will need to be accompanied by a parent and registered as a Level 1 Attendant. Also, coaching at Level 1 is a great way to accompany your child and have fun!
+++Please consider coaching or assistant coaching as it is our number one need! You do not necessarily need to coach at your child's level. No experience necessary+++
Following are some needed areas of volunteer service:
Coaches - several needed
Coaching is one of the more enjoyable volunteer opportunities. The MYSL program makes it easy for a coach to know what to do. An eight week curriculum has been prepared for every class level and each day's lesson. The guide also provides many helpful tips and games to keep classes enjoyable and interesting. You do not have to be an elite level skier to be a coach. All you need is a desire to help kids and have fun. We really need your help! If you are considering to volunteer as a coach, please contact me. It is important to finalize our coach count early.
Equipment Manager(s) - one additional needed
Equipment managers help with inventory, ordering, and ski distribution for the club. This is a much needed role in the club!
Assistant Coaches, Junior Coaches, and Sweepers - multiple needed
Needed for all levels! Assist skiers as they learn to put on and take off skis. Ski alongside the group and give encouragement.
Please Note:
Each adult skier (16 or older) is required to have a MN State Ski Pass $6/day or $20/season. More information can be obtained at http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/licenses/skipass/index.html.
We will meet each week at the golf course (a parking pass is not required).
For trail conditions updates contact the 24 hr. ski info line at 763-767-2827.
