Schedule and Location

We will meet for eight Sunday afternoons from January 7 to March 3
(No session 2/18 due to the Cross-Country World Cup being held in Minneapolis! https://loppetcup.com/ )
Time:  1:30-3:00pm (please arrive 15 minutes early to sign in and get bibs and skis on).

Location:  Staring Lake Park, Eden Prairie.  We will meet at Staring Lake Park whenever possible. If we need to change time or location due to weather or snow conditions, we will email information about the change as soon as we can. Nordic skiing conditions can change rapidly.   Please watch your email for information and changes.

Staring Lake Park has a warming house/ restrooms a short walk away from where we meet.  There are no restrooms/ water where we meet. Please plan accordingly and use before or after the session. (If children need to use the restroom during the session, they will need a parent present to take them over to the warming house)

MYSL's policy for refunds is like most other youth sports in that refunds are not offered after the season starts.  If we have low/poor snow, we'll do our best to ski at Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington.  MYSL will not offer refunds or crediting fees forward to the next year.

Alternate Location (for no snow, low snow conditions only):  Hyland Lake Park Reserve.  Jan's Place.  Time: 4:30pm Sundays
Address:  10145 Bush Lake Road,  Bloomington, MN  55438
The meeting place is near a cabin called "Jan's Place".  Jan's Place is past the visitor center.  Watch for signs along the park road giving directions to "Edgewood and Jan's Place". Jan's Place at Hyland has porta-potties.

For Hyland: Everyone 12 and over needs an "All Parks Pass" through Three Rivers Parks. Daily passes are $10. https://www.threeriversparks.org/activity/cross-country-skiing

Equipment

We have some great equipment for skiers to rent for a nominal fee - $55 for the entire season.  This equipment can be taken home and used for family outings.  We have a limited number of ski packages and sizes, so register early.  If you paid for rental equipment on-line but were not able to be outfitted, you will be reimbursed for the fees.

Our rental skis are classic no-wax skis.  We do not have skate ski equipment available on a rental basis.  Children skiing in level 5 or above should have their own skate skis, boots, and poles.  In addition, for children skiing at level 4 or above, waxable classic skis are highly recommended.

MYSL Ski Swap

The MYSL annual Ski Swap and Expo is  Saturday, November 18th, 2023. This is a great opportunity to find new and used ski equipment for your family.  https://www.myxc.org/ski-swap

Weather

If the temperature drops below 0F or wind chill is low, class may be cancelled or shortened. We will e-mail a cancellation notice at least two hours before class.

Clothing

Dress your child appropriately for the day’s weather. Dress in layers: long underwear, an insulating layer, and a non-absorbent outer layer to block the wind and keep out snow.  Warm hats, mittens, and socks are mandatory!

Curriculum

MYSL provides a structured 8-week curriculum at six ski levels (4 classic and 2 skate).  Children will be grouped into appropriate classes at the first meeting.  Adjustments to groups are made throughout the season as needed.

Volunteers

MYSL is a volunteer organization, and we need your help!  We are looking for help with club leadership, volunteers to bring snacks, help with bibs and sign-in, taking pictures / videos, and help getting kids to their groups.  Members of the Eden Prairie High School Nordic Ski team will be volunteering as coaches.  They do a fantastic job and the MYSL club skiers love them. To volunteer, please register on this website.
