3/2/2024 End of Season Celebration
Despite unprecedented weather this winter, we still managed to have a fun season! Let's get together to celebrate our skiers' dedication and development this season on March 2, 2024 at 2 pm in the Chalet. If you get there early, I'd appreciate help with reserving tables for our group. I'll be bringing pizza. Anyone else who can bring some food or drink can sign up here: MyXC EC Saturday: Food/Drink Sign Up for End of Season Celebration.
The coaches will be handing out level pins, skill cards, and k-pins (for those who participated in the K-Counter) to the skiers. Families can return ski bibs and rental equipment. Please clean off any mud from your rental equipment before returning it. If you're unable to return ski bibs/equipment at the celebration, email elmcreek.saturday@myxc.org to set up a day/time to drop it off.
Thank you to all our volunteers who contributed their knowledge, time, and support! Without them we couldn't have a season.
2/10/2024 Session Canceled
Unfortunately, the Elm Creek Ski trails are closed to all ski clubs this weekend due to the rain ruining the trails. In many parts, the dirt is showing and the conditions are like skiing on ice chips. Due to this, our session is canceled tomorrow. I'm sorry this season has been less than ideal. Still, I'm hopeful that the forecasts predicting lowering temperatures and some snow in the near future are accurate. Please reach out to elmcreek.saturday@myxc.org with questions.
1/13/2024 Session Canceled due to weather
Based on the NOAA hourly graph, it's going to be -10 windchill at the start of our 1/13 session and will continue to drop from there. Due to this, we won't be meeting tomorrow. We will be able to meet on the following dates for a total of 8 sessions this season: 1/20, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10, 2/17, and 2/24. While it's always tough to decide not to meet, I think this will be best for safety and ensuring our skiers don't have a really bad experience with skiing due to the extra cold conditions.

2023 - 24 Schedule and location
DATES
MYXC Elm Creek Saturday will meet for 8 Saturdays. The 2023-24 sessions are 12/30, 1/6, 1/13, 1/20, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10, and 2/17, and 2/24.
WHERE
- We meet at the Elm Creek Chalet at an MYSL table set up across from the ski rental building, where you should check in prior to your skier finding their level group.
- There is parking at the Chalet. If the Chalet lots are full, you can park at the Elm Creek Swim Pond parking lot and take the shuttle to the Chalet. Plan on arriving at least 30 minutes prior to your start time.

Weather and cancellation policy
We will not ski if the air temperature is below -2? F or the wind chill is below -10? F, or at the leader's discretion. Because the little kids ski out in the open, wind is a big factor at Elm Creek. Always check the website or email elmcreek.saturday@myxc.org with questions. Cancellations will be posted on this Web page as well as the MYSL - Elm Creek SkiSparks Facebook page.
"There is no bad weather, just bad clothing"
Children should be dressed in layers. A moisture wicking under layer, an insulating layer, and a wind proof layer are typically appropriate. Please use your discretion noting your child's activity level and the outside temperature/wind chill. Often a winter jacket and snow pants or a snowsuit can be too warm once the child gets skiing unless they are young and in the beginner group. "Wool is wonderful. Cotton is rotten!"
Equipment and Passes
Equipment rental through our club is first come, first serve and costs $55 for the season. The benefit or renting through MyXC is that the skier gets to keep the equipment throughout the season, which allows them to practice anytime. Another rental option is Elm Creek, which has rentals available at the rental building next to the Chalet. The cost for children's rentals (11 years or less) is $10 each week for Youth Classic skis and Adult rentals (ages 12+) are $14 each week. Children skiing in level 5 or above should have their own skate skis, boots, and poles. In addition, for children skiing at level 4 or above, waxable classic skis are highly recommended.
Trail Passes are not required for children 11 years old and younger. Ages 12 and up (skiing parents/coaches as well) need to purchase passes. Daily $9 or seasonal $75 for the first in the household ($37.50 each additional). The annual passes are good at ALL Three Rivers parks ski trails.
VOLUNTEERING
This is a volunteer run club. The success and affordability of this program comes directly from your contributions of time, energy, and talent. By registering for this club, you are committing to the club's success and are agreeing to volunteer.
Level 1 skiers will need to be accompanied by an adult. Coaching at level 1 is a great way to accompany your child. We are also in very great need of coaches for all levels 1-6. Please consider coaching as it is our number one need! You do not necessarily need to coach at your child's level.

Coaching:
We really need your help! This is our biggest need and is one of the most rewarding ways in which you can help the club. Kids get more out of the program when the coach-to-kid ratio is low, and coaches need not be experienced skiers to volunteer. The MYSL program makes it easy for a coach to know what to do. An eight week curriculum has been prepared for every class level and each day's lesson is available on the MYXC Coaching App that you can use on your phone. The coaching app also provides many helpful tips and games to keep classes enjoyable and interesting. You do not have to be an elite level skier to be a coach. Junior Coaches:
High-school aged skiers, we need you! We rely heavily on high school volunteers, who are fun, friendly and in far better shape than most of us. Coaching for Elm Creek MYXC qualifies as a service commitment for NHS. Think about how great this will look on a college application! Assistant and Sub Coaches:
As an assistant coach, you can support a coach by accompanying the group on the trails and helping skiers (sometimes known as "Sweepers"). If you feel like your skiing level is at the same level as the level your kids are signed up for, you would be a fantastic assistant coach! You are not in charge of the instruction, rather you are there to make sure the kids are safe, have an adult to bring them to the bathroom, and can assist with activities.
If you are a sub coach, you can fill in when a coach isn't able to make it to ski club.
